I have been busy visiting schools for the last couple of weeks. Last Monday I was at Ohio County Elementary Middle School in Rising Sun, IN. I met with the most sweetest person on the face of the earth; Ms. Nanette Williams. She met my husband and I at the door and pushed a cart with my books and teaching materials around the whole school. She also treated my husband and I to lunch. I met with the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. There I talked about the writing process and what it took to get my book in print. I also read some parts of the book to the younger students. The students and staff could also purchase or order my books and with each purchase they received an autograph and a bookmark. I had a real good time. It was a lot of fun!! Thanks for having me!!
Today I went to two schools; East Washington Middle School in the morning and Salem Middle School in the afternoon. Ms. Cheryl Backherms met me and led me to the library where I was to talk with fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth graders. I once again talked about the writing process and about the book! I enjoyed talking with students and staff and I really enjoyed Ms. Backherms. She treated me to lunch so I got to know her a little bit as she got to know me. Thanks so much!! It was good to meet you and thanks again for inviting me. It really means a lot to me!!
Ms. Backherms also invited me to Salem Middle School and she escorted me to Salem from Pekin. She also introduced me to Ms. Lisa Nice, the librarian. Ms. Nice led me to the auditorium where I was to talk with students and staff. I wish to thank everyone there who purchased a book and for being the perfect audience! I had such a wonderful experience! Can't wait to hear back from you guys! Thanks again Ms. Nice your name fits you perfectly! It was great meeting you!
I just finished my visit to Highland Hills Middle School and boy was it exhausting! I now have a more admirable look at what teachers go through day after day; teaching the same thing over and over again and trying to remember if I said that to this class or was it the last class or was it the first. I have to hand it to you educators, you do a great job! Thanks so much!!
I do think that I may have inspired some up and coming writers that may have had an interest in writing, but for some reason they may have put it on the back burner. There were some children that came and asked questions about if they were too young to get their writings published and I gave them some names of publishers that only publish for young adults; whether it being poems, a short story, or a manuscript. It may take several tries, but it will be well worth the effort if it was to get published. They would definitely have a step up in the publishing world. Publishers tend to look at writers who have been published before for future publishing. I do hope to hear from teachers and students about the visit and if you do purchase the book I do hope that you enjoy reading it. It sure was a lot of fun writing it.
One more thought on writing; please don't make it hard. Have fun writing and creating fun characters. Make it adventurous and exciting! Don't worry about how its written or the grammar for right now, just concentrate on the story. Get it down on paper. If you get stuck, just keep writing it will work itself out and it will come together, I promise it will! Just believe that you can do it! Because I know that you can!!
Special thanks goes out to Theresa Gottbrath for inviting me. It was a pleasure meeting you and spending the day with you! Thanks for having me! It was a great experience and I did enjoy meeting and talking to all the teachers and students!
Thanks so much!!
I just finished the book signing at Barnes and Noble Booksellers and boy was it a lot of fun! I want to personally thank Denise Ruddle who invited me to have this signing and I do hope to be able to come again sometime soon. I gave her a single rose in a vase to thank her for her generous hospitality which I do sincerely appreciate. I also want to thank everyone for coming out and participating in this fun event and who purchased a book. Everyone who purchased a book received a free book mark and some delicious cookies. I also have the best family and friends that money can't buy. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You guys are so very supportive in this fantasy life that I'm living in at the moment and hopefully one day the true magic of Quasar will be on the big screen. Only time will tell.
I have the names of the people who I signed the books to. I'd like to personally acknowledge them by listing them and thanking them for purchasing my book. Makenzi, Madison, Zach, Caylyn, Jack, Cameron, Ian, Maggie, Kelsey, Grace, Ellie, Hannah, Erica Hile, Emileigh, Brian Schweinhart, George, Sue, and Wendy. Special thanks to Lisa and Delaney for making such a long trip. It was good to see you.
Thanks everybody!!
I just finished the book signing event at The Fork in the Road Family Restaurant and it was awesome! Lots of family, friends, and fans attended and either had their already purchased books signed or purchased more books or just came by to say "Hi" or they came to enjoy Mr. Magic and indulge in some really good food! A Big THANKS goes out to the 'Fork in the Road Family Restaurant' for their generous hospitality and great service. And THANKS to Cathy Hume, owner/operator of the restaurant for letting us use such a great place for the event. A big THANKS goes out to everyone who came out and enjoyed the day. I really appreciate your support. Last but not least, a big THANKS goes out to Mr. Magic who energetically entertained everyone in attendance with his magic cards, tricks, and balloon sculpting. He is a real treat to watch. I hope you were there because it sure was alot of fun! If you were unable to attend I am planning to have lots more events and hope that 'The Fork in the Road Family Restaurant' will eagerly have us again! I'm also adding a link to Mr. Magic, Jeff Russ' website if you are interested in him performing at a special event, birthday, or even an event at school or daycare. His rates are reasonable. Check it out! He really is something else!
